The MEDITES project (Méditerranée Diffusion des Techniques et des Sciences) consists in bringing scientific culture to the youth that are socially or territorially far from this type of background. Thirty partners, scientists, engineers, PhD students, scientific mediators, museum staff and others, have teamed up to offer different learning pathways to classes in the Alpes Maritimes and the Var, for 3 years.
Two of these classes have followed the OCEAN : OBSERVATION AND DISCOVERY pathway: the 5th Class C of the “Collège Jules Romains”, in Nice/France, accompanied by Ms Magali MARCH, and the 4th Class 8 “Collège Les Mûriers”, in Cannes-La Bocca/France, accompanied by Mr Lionel SAURET.
The OCEAN: OBSERVATION AND DISCOVERY pathway was a mean of introducing students to oceanography, via research topics at the Observatoire Océanologique de Villefranche-sur-Mer (OOV). It was also a manner to sensitize them to the observation of the environment with more or less sophisticated instruments, as well as to the scientific approach.
The OOV staff, always working in pairs with members of the Petits Débrouillards Association, met their “Ocean” pupils 10 times during the year. Each time, science, experiments, games and discussions were scheduled to arouse the curiosity of young students.
The completion of this first edition of the MEDITES learning pathways was celebrated on the 22nd of May 2015, on the Valrose University campus in Nice/France, with all classes and all partners involved in the project. The students were the true actors of this day, as they presented to colleagues and to all of us the knowledge they acquired thanks to MEDITES.
This celebration was a real success.
