Two new floats deployed in the oxygen minimum zones of the Pacific Ocean that help monitoring changes in particle size
dans carnet de bordThe last two floats of the UK Bio-Argo programme have been deployed a few weeks ago, and now they are travelling in the waters of the Pacific Ocean around 10°N. At these latitudes, there are the so-called oxygen minimum zones, areas where the oxygen concentration below 100 m of depth is very low with respect to other oceanic environments.
The floats metbio011e and metbio012e are also measuring particle light backscattering at 2 wavelengths. These quantities are useful to determine the size of marine particles and understand how much particle remineralisation rates change with respect to other areas.
